What to Expect
What to Expect

First, expect to enjoy your cruise. Most visitors come away impressed with the high level of service, the quality of the amenities and the overall good cheer of fellow passengers and staff alike. Here are some considerations to make your voyage even better.

Almost Everything Is Included

Cruise ships are designed to be all-inclusive, floating resorts and they operate similarly to their landed cousins. You’ll receive a swipe card/room key to pay for onboard extras like wine and spa treatments. (Cash only comes out at the casino.)

Here's what is included in your cruise vacation package price:

  • Your cabin/stateroom
  • Meals—breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks and room service
  • Activities—from ballroom dancing lessons to pie eating contests, you'll find a wide variety of things to do onboard
  • Entertainment—bon voyage parties, stage shows, lounge musicians and more

Expect to pay extra for: shore excursions, spa treatments, dining at special restaurants, gambling and souvenirs.

Dining Is Now Your Call

Dining has changed dramatically onboard most cruise ships. Gone are the mandatory seating times, the required formal attire and, sadly for some, the midnight buffet. Today’s ships offer steak houses and sushi bars among many other options. You will want to reserve early for these non-community dining rooms (and there is usually a nominal fee). But not all has changed, room service is still available 24-7.

Packing Is Key to a Relaxed Vacation

Your bags won’t arrive immediately, so carry on what you’ll need until evening. Pack for your type of cruise. Remember, the rain forest requires different shoes than the Captain’s Table. Pack all necessities, they’re pricey to replace. There is laundry and dry cleaning service just in case you spill wine on your tux.
